AIB ULSTER JUNIOR CLUB FINAL
Cavan Gaels 4-11 Killeevan Sarsfields 0-9
Three first half goals from Cavan Gaels was the foundation for winning the Ulster junior title at the expense of Killeevan Sarsfields. The game was played in front off a large crowd at the excellent Shamrock Park, Roslea on Saturday.
Sarsfields had a great start with 16-year-old Karyn Mc Ginn firing over the first two points. The Gaels then scored a fortunate goal with a speculate shot from the excellent Katie O’Meara looping into the top corner. Further points followed from O’Meara and Katie Leddy before Killeevan had Emma Corley sin binned.
With the Sarsfields midfielder in the bin Cavan Gaels outscored the Monaghan side 1-3 to 0-2, the goal coming from player of the match Leddy. Mc Ginn then sent over her 5th point but the Gaels finished strong adding another goal through Sarah Clarke and a point from Emma McIntyre. Half time score Cavan Gaels 3-6 Killeevan Sarsfield 0-5.
The early stages of the second half seen points from Leddy and O’Meara cancelled with a brace from Mc Ginn. Midway through the half and a number of substitutions were made. Further points were exchanged and then the game was effectively sealed in the 20th minutes when Leddy added her second goal. Gaels finished strong adding another three unanswered points to secure a first Ulster title for the club.
Katie Leddy who finished with 2-2 was named player of the match however O’Meara and Mc Ginn are also worthy of a mention as they contributed 1-7 and 0-7 respectively. Defensively, Gaels captain and centre back Niamh Briody was outstanding.
