Antrim Overcome Fermanagh

TG4 ULSTER JUNIOR FINAL

Antrim 0-18 Fermanagh 2-9

Antrim trailed Fermanagh by five points at half time but turned in a super second half performance to lift the Ulster junior title, their first since 2016.

Fermanagh had a dream start with Eimear Smyth netting after just 11 seconds. The Erne girls continued to dominate the first half and a mix up in the Antrim defence allowed Joanne Doonan to net a second Fermanagh goal which in turn gave them a 2-6 to 0-7 interval lead.

Whatever Sean O kane said to his side at half time worked a treat as they were a different team in the second half. Lara Dahunsi was switched to full forward and it worked a treat as the St. Paul's player hit 4 points from play including the equalizer on 15 minutes. A smarter Antrim defence kept Fermanagh to just 3 points in the second half. Cathy Carey (7 points) and Mairead Cooper who went off with a bloody head only to return late in the second half were outstanding for the saffrons as was player of the match Captain Saoirse Tennyson.

The sides will meet again in the All Ireland series and that will make for an interesting day but for now its a moment for Antrim to savour.
