Magic Mohan Leads Monaghan to Final

Monaghan 1-19 Cavan 2-10


1-6 from the excellent Caoimhe Mohan helped reigning champions Monaghan reach this years Ulster senior final at the expense of Cavan in sunny Galbally on Saturday evening. It was Cavan who opened the scoring and while Monaghan quickly equalised the Breffni girls went back in the lead in the 3rd minute when Aisling Doonan netted. Shortly after Monaghan were awarded a penalty however Cora Courtney dragged her shot to the left of the post and sent the ball wide. Cavan settled the quicker and a second goal followed courtesy of corner forward Catriona Smith. Monaghan eventually got into their stride and kicked the next five points. Entering the last five minutes of the half an Aisling Sheridan point gave Cavan a two point lead however late scores from Caoimhe Mohan and Laura Mc Eneaney left the half time score level Cavan 2-3 Monaghan 0-9.


Monaghan were a different team in the second half. They quickly reeled off 3 points before Cavan got off the mark. The brilliant Mohan then found the net and the Farney side now found themselves 5 ahead and in the driving seat. From here on Monaghan out scored Cavan 7-6 to win by 6 points. Five of Monaghan starting six forward scored while Cavan relied heavily on Aisling Doonan for scores. The Templeport forward finished Cavan's top scorer with 1-4. Monaghan will now meet Donegal in the Ulster final on Sunday 2nd July.
