Ulster Junior Semi Final

Derry 5-15 Antrim 5-9

What a difference a week makes. Last Saturday in the rain Derry struggled to come to terms with Fermanagh however this weekend the Oak Leaf girls were a different animal and in the sun in Galbally they booked their place in the Ulster junior final thanks to a 6 point extra time win against Antrim. Steelstown's Emma Doherty was the driving force behind the win scoring 3-5 including two penalties.

Playing with the aid of a strong breeze the Derry girls led at the break 1-6 to 1-3. Doherty scored the Oak Leaf goal from the penalty spot in the 4th minute while the Saffron major was scored by their excellent captain Eimear Gallagher in the 22nd minute.

Derry had to play the early part of the second half with just 14 players as Ciara Mooore was sin binned on the stroke of half time. A 12th minute goal from the excellent Michelle Magee put Antrim in front for the first time since the 2nd minute however a free from Doherty entering the final quarter leveled matters. Antrim then went four ahead courtesy of Gallagher and it looked like the saffrons were going to pull of a win. With time almost up Emma Doherty goaled from a close range free and then sent over an injury time free to leave the full time score 2-12 to 4-6 and send the game into extra time.

After the first period of extra time Antrim led by a single point however in the second period Derry out played the saffrons and goals from Erin Doherty and Emma Doherty helped to ensure a wonderful victory. In the Ulster final derry will meet Fermanagh on 2nd July.
