Coalisland Fianna 1-7

Kingscourt Stars Cavan 5-9

It was the end of the road for Tyrone’s Junior champions Coalisland on Saturday as Kingscourt turned in a strong display to ease through to the junior club final with plenty to spare. The Fianna struggled to cope with the powerful running of the Stars captain Nicole Fleming, Rachel Gargin and Aine Rielly who ruled the roost through the middle.

Missing the experienced Lynette McShane through injury and Una Robinson through suspension Coalisland always faced an uphill battle although to their abiding credit they were very much in the game until the latter stages, five between the teams on the 58th minute of normal time.

The Cavan side though rattled in 2-4 in a final five minute spell to ease to the final later this month.

2-2 to 0-4 down at the break Coalisland were in need of a quick response after the restart, instead it was Kingscourt who hit a third goal to open a seven point gap. Kingscourt were having difficulty in the opening quarter coping with Caoimhe Quinn, Chloe Corr and Nicole Murphy, Quinn, Murphy and Emma Cummings with early points although a Rachel Gargin goal was a crucial score for the visitors.

Coalisland hit a succession of wides while Kingscourt too found finding the target difficult , hitting the crossbar twice. McKernan and Murphy points left it a five point game as the tie entered the latter stages.

Kingscourt pressed on as the tie wound towards the final whistle, Rooney and Martina Power adding to the goal tally with Coalisland under pressure to get up the park, disappointment for them but still it has been a wonderful campaign for them.
